Lela Maxine Watson
Age 86, passed away September 21, 2003, at her home. She was born September 28, 1916 in Columbia, Kentucky, the daughter of Charlie R. and Emma L. Overstreet Williams. She was married to Arthur Clay Watson on October 15, 1937 in Knifley, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Phillip Arthur Watson, as well as two brothers and a sister.
She was a charter member of Casa View Christian Church in Dallas, Texas, and taught Sunday School there for 37 years. She also was an active member at West Side Christian Church, participating in Christian Women's Fellowship, Golden Oldies, and Keystone Class. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Myers, Topeka. Also, three granddaughters, Suzanne Laird of Clive, Iowa, Heather Ruckman of Lawrence, and Hope Mohan of Topeka. Great grandchildren include: Madison, Maggie, and Morgan Laird, and Carter, Collin, and Camden Ruckman.
Funeral services will be held at West Side Christian Church at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2003. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Maxine will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003. A visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel.
