Leah Marie "Tudy" Burton, 79, Topeka, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at her home.
She was born July 28, 1932 in Lindsborg, the daughter of Leo S. and Signe Anderson Larson. Tudy was raised in McPherson, graduating from McPherson High School with the class of 1950.
She married Terry D. Burton on February 26, 1956 in Lindsborg. He survives at the home. They moved to Topeka in 1958, and after living in Colby, Concordia, and Salina, came back to Topeka in December, 1965.
She served as the Health Assistant for Seaman Unified School District #345 until 1977. She coordinated the Ring-A-Day program for Topeka for several years, and for over 30 years, was a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital and Stormont-Vail Foundation, currently serving on the Stormont-Vail Foundation Advisory Committee, amassing over 10,000 hours.
Tudy served on the Board of Directors at Stormont-Vail, was Past-President of the Stormont-Vail Auxiliary twice and served as State President of Hospital Auxiliaries. She had been active in the Mother Of Twins Chapter of Topeka. She was a long time member of Second Presbyterian Church.
Survivors beside her husband include daughter, Torey (Richard) Hicks of Topeka; son, Tristan (Lynn) Burton of Spokane, WA; twins, Trey (Deb) Burton of Topeka and Traci Burton of Lafayette, CO; sister, Linda Train of Cape Girardeau, MO; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with interment in Rochester Cemetery. She will lie in state after noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
