TOPEKA- Lawrence (Larry) David Pressman, 81, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at home January 29, 2022, after a battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Larry was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 24, 1940, to Leo and Idaleone (Baum) Pressman, at Stormont Vail Hospital.
Larry was a lifelong Topekan, graduating from Topeka High School in 1958. He then attended Washburn University. He was employed for 41 years at Briman's Leading Jewelers, retiring in September 2020. Where, over the years, he had become a favorite jeweler of people near and far, especially for husbands who were never sure what to buy their wives for that special occasion.
He was a member and past board member of Temple Beth Sholom. He was a member and past potentate of Arab Shrine, where he had also been active in the Clowns and Golfers units. Additionally, he was a member of Orient Lodge #51, Scottish Rite (KCCH), Impresario of the Royal Order of the Jesters and Order of Quetzalcoatl.
Larry was passionate about sports, whether coaching from the stands, especially his granddaughters', or the couch in front of the tv. He enjoyed golf, poker, snow skiing and traveling.
Larry married Patricia (Patty) Miller on August 15, 1965, in Topeka, Kansas. Together they had one daughter, Rene.
Larry is survived by his wife, Patty, daughter, Rene Pressman (Kansas City, MO), and two granddaughters, Ida Rae Pieschl (Quincy, IL) and Madelyn Kay Pieschl (Overland Park, KS), his sister, Barbara (Gary) Sondergard, (Goddard, KS), and niece, Shannon Sondergard (Wichita, KS). Their family dog, Baxter, grand dog, Lucy, and great grand dog, Bentley. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Idaleone Pressman.
Larry's family will greet friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. A funeral ceremony will be at 1:00pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriner's Children Hospital, or to a charity of their choice.
