Lawrence F. Ferrell, 90, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Midland Hospice House.
Lawrence F. Ferrell was born December 12, 1920, near Valley Falls, KS, son of Eugene and Audrey Ferrell. He grew up near Valley Falls and graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1938.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Augusta Schuppert on April 8, 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army from July 1942 to September 1945. Lawrence was stationed in North Africa and Italy. He was a retired U.S. Postal Letter Carrier. After retiring, he was a window repairman at Roach Hardware. He had also delivered the Topeka Capital-Journal for many years.
Lawrence was a member of University United Methodist Church. He was an enthusiastic sports fan. He had at various times been a needle point hobbyist, embroiderer, puzzle maker, bowler, gardener, and word searcher.
Lawrence is survived by a daughter, Lauraine (Joe) Fenoglio, a son, Larry (Nancy) Ferrell, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Augusta, and his great-grandson, Logan Crimmins.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Lawrence will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011, at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be directed to Midland Care Hospice Services.
