Mary LaVon Hedges, 80, Topeka, died November 9, 2005 at Stormont Vail Health Care. LaVon was born November 6, 1925 in Marshall County Kansas to Verne and Freda Winney. She moved to Topeka in 1944 after attending a one-room school in Marshall county and graduating from Marysville High School. She married Eldon Thomas Hedges in Topeka on March 18, 1950.
LaVon and Tom lived in Topeka until 1978 when they moved to the Rossville area. She retired from Kansas Power and Light in 1988. In 1989, Tom and LaVon relocated to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. They returned to Topeka in March 2005. LaVon was an avid quilter and collector. She was member of the Local 304 IBEW and the Fairfield Bay.
LaVon is survived by her husband, Tom; 2 sons, Tom Hedges, Topeka and Dick, "Ben" Hedges, Valley Center; a daughter, Carol Hedges, Denver, Co; 6 granddaughters and 7 grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Baldwin, Topeka and her brother, Jim Winney, Lawrence.
A memorial service for Mrs. Hedges will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family visitation will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.. Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association, 1701 N.
