LaVerne Alvin Falk died June 23, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. Born December 9, 1917, in Courtland, Kansas; LaVerne is the son of Victor and Emma Nelson Falk. He married Esther Swank in 1946, later divorced and married Evelyn Burkdoll in 1965. He moved to Topeka in 1961. He worked as a carpenter. LaVerne served in World War II in the South West Pacific, in the 163rd infantry regiment, 41st division. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, four Campaign Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Discharge Pin, one Arrow Head, and numerous Campaign Battle Ribbons.
He is survived by his sister, Dorthy Anderson; son, Ronald L. Falk; four granddaughters; and six great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, 2200 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66622. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
