Laura B. Powell,93, of Lecompton, passed away Friday, November 18, 2005 at Deer Park Care Home in Meriden.
She was born August 20, 1912, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of George Otis and Laura S. Mathers Morriss.
She was an avid gardener and homemaker. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She married Gilbert W. Powell September 9, 1930 in Lyndon, KS. Preceded in death by husband Gilbert and infant daughter, Janice Dorene.
Survivors include a son, John D. Powell and wife Marva Lee of Lecompton; a daughter, Shirley June Combs and husband Harold of Smithsburg, MD; a sister in law, Elain Rendell of Topeka; granddaughters, Jenny Powell (Dale McGrath), Jolene Bickel (Bill), Julie Powell, Jill Powell (Ron Miller); grandsons, Jeff Combs (Liz), Craig Combs; 8 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Laura will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm that evening. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 23 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Eastview Cemetery in Big Springs.
