Larry Sheppeard

Larry L. Sheppeard, 70, Topeka, died of C.O.P.D. on July 18, 2006 at his home.

Larry was born November 12, 1935 in Wakefield, the son of Ray (Bud) and Bernice Seitz Sheppeard. He graduated from St. Marys High School in 1953 and Washburn University in 1962. Larry worked at Goodyear while attending college and later taught high school math. In 1965, Larry became a State Farm Insurance agent, retiring in December 2000.

Larry married Glenna Snow in 1953; they divorced in 1974. In l976, he married Darlyne Bender. She survives at home. He is also survived by four daughters; Cynthia Sheppeard Langston and husband, Ron, Topeka, Nancy Anderson, Debbie Ebert and husband, Mike, Kathy Kurn and husband, Mike, Lake Havasu City, AZ; four stepchildren, Diane Bender, Tom Bender, Topeka, Susan Bender and Sally Jenkins, Overland Park; sixteen grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Flerlage, St Marys, Peggy Kovar, Milford; and a brother, Ron Sheppeard, Los Lunas, NM.

Larry was active in Breakfast Optimist Club, Moose Lodge, and Quail Unlimited. He was Local Chairman for the Soap Box Derby and Flag Football Chairman for the Optimist Club.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th. Larry will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
