Larry Lincoln Hume

Larry Lincoln Hume, 74, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022.

He was born August 22, 1947, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Edwin Fredrick Hume and Mary (Smith) Phillips. He graduated from Hutchinson High School.

After high school, Larry joined the United States Army. He served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Panama after returning from war. He was an expert marksman, active on the Army shooting team, and was a Military Policeman.

Larry was honorably discharged from the military in September of 1971. He attended Hutchinson Community College and received his Associate Degree in Accounting followed by attending McPherson College and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

On July 2, 1972, he married Gay Ellen Ebel at Trinity Methodist Church in Hutchinson, Kansas. To their union of marriage, they had one daughter, Lauri Rebecca. They were married almost 50 years.

Larry employed as a Machinist by Consolidated Manufacturing for 30 years. He was also employed by Cessna Fluid Power and Haven Steel.

He was formerly a member of the Hutchinson Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was currently a member Wanamaker Seventh-Day Adventist Church, of Topeka. His faith was very important to his life. He served as a Deacon and an Elder in Hutchinson.

Larry enjoyed watching western movies, especially John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed watching Star Trek, reading various western and Sci-Fi novels, shooting, working in his yard and gardening and horseback riding. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his wife, daughter and puppies, Jazzy, Kira and Riker. He enjoyed listening to western music and hymns.

He was a lifetime NRA member, former member at the Hutchinson American Legion, and was an Eagle Boy Scout.

Survivors include his wife, Gay Ellen Hume; daughter, Lauri Rebecca Hume and his puppies, Jazzy, Kira, Riker and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and Smith Grandparents.

Graveside Services will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048. Memorial contributions may be made to Hutchinson 7th Day Adventist Church, 1302 N Severance St, Hutchinson, KS 67501 or the Wanamaker Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2435 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. Family condolence cards can be sent to Gay Hume in care of Penwell Gable Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
