Larry D. Shinn

Larry Don Shinn, 68, of Topeka died Saturday February 28, 2004 at Presbyterian Manor. He was born November 17, 1935, in Bushton, Kansas, the son of Charles Wesley Shinn and Lillie Irene Shinn Lake. Larry graduated from Topeka High School in 1952. Following high school he served in the United States Naval Reserves. During his young adulthood, Larry was employed at Santa Fe Railroad, Guild Monument, and attended the Topeka Police Academy. Larry retired as a Major of the Topeka Police Department Communications Division in 1986. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge and the Masonic Lodge Golden Rule # 90. Larry cherished the time he spent deer hunting with his brothers, children and grandson, and devoted many hours to collecting antique glassware and oil lamps. Larry was married to Lila Lee Stebbins on July 6,1956, she died Nov. 18, 1979. Also preceding him in death were a brother, Jack Eldon Shinn, a sister, Grace Shinn Root, and a grandson, Jerrid Clason Rosine. Survivors include three brothers,, Leonard "Mack" Shinn, Arlington, Va., Kenneth Denzil Shinn, Osceola, Mo., and William Robert Shinn, Topeka, and his sister Mary Margaret Tipton, Meriden, Ks., two sons, Gary Wayne Shinn and his wife Joy, Charles Allen Shinn and his wife Jackie all of Topeka, one daughter Carol Rae Rosine, Auburn, Ks, five grandchildren, Brian, Travis, Malary and Blake Shinn, Jamie Rosine, two great-granddaughters, Laney Kay Shinn and Paiden Ann Rosine. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday March 3, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Graveside Services will be at Mount Hope Cemetery conducted by Golden Rule Lodge # 90. Mr. Shinn will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Masonic Lodge Golden Rule # 90, 909 N.W.
