Larry D. Hume

September 7, 1949 — December 31, 2011

Larry Dean Hume is a very happy man right now. He is in Heaven with the mother he never knew. June M. Hume died giving birth to him on September 7, 1949 in Ponca City, OK. Also walking the streets of gold are his grandparents John Wallea Hume, Elsie Marie Hume Foster, and Hope Foster who adopted Larry and raised him as their own. There is also brothers Buriel W. Hume, Dale E. Hume, and Doyle E. Hume and sisters Wanda L. Hume Beach and Norma L. Hume, he is also joining his wife Tonitha Hume, his daughter Jesilca Anna Charlie Hume who was 17 and twin son and daughter. Larry is Jehovah Shallom, Toni is El Shaddai and Tonitha is Jehovah Jireha. Larry was a Unitarian Minister.

Amongst the living waiting his return back to Earth on 12-25-2012 are sisters Dorothy M. Hume Mahnko, Betty A. Hume Anduha, Elsie Louise Hume Morgan, Brenda Joyce Hume Rath, and brother Jimmy W. Hume. Plus me, his wife, Toni C. Thacker. We met April 1, 2008 at Lulac Senior Center where he was employed as a receptionist thru Ser International. We were married Sept. 14, 2009 in Gage Park by a Justice of the Peace. We were planning a big wedding at Old Prairie Park in June, but alas things aren't always as they appear even to me. So I guess it'll just have to be on his return with Jesus as King along with all the rest of the population of Earth, except those who choose to stay in New Jerusalem, of course. He looked upon my daughter, Jaimie Faustman; son, Jon Faustman; and daughter, Jenni and her husband, Craig Ohl as his own kids. He positively adored his grandchildren Jaira Faustman 5, Johnathan VanCampen 12, Cadence Ohl 10, and the twins-2 year old Caylee and Caleb Ohl.

Larry spent 35 years of his life in KS prisons for a crime he did not commit. While there, he became a para-legal, cooked, worked in the library, and became a skilled leather craftsman. He also held various work release positions such as building ambulances, repairing glasses, and did warehouse and janitorial work. He said he made alot of friends-he still corresponds with some and helped others get jobs when he worked with Ser International at the work force. He was paroled to Shawnee County Re-entry Program in 2005. He wrote to many places and could not get employment because of his record, even though he was skilled in various occupations.

Now, to relate the events of that day. It was December 31st, New Year's Eve. We went shopping to several different stores to purchase all the needed goods for our quiet celebration at home for that night. At 6 pm, we were headed to the Winter Wonderland at Lake Shawnee. He drove past the turn off on Croco Road so he pulled in the next lane to do a U-turn. Neither of us saw a thing after that. The driver of the Ford Explorer raced up to us and asked if we were alright. I said no and to call an ambulance please. Larry's head was laying on my shoulder. He gasped, moaned a little, and then simply stopped breathing. He was never in any pain and it was no one's fault. He just did not see the vehicle at all.

He was cremated at Penwell Gabel. I chose a lovely urn to keep his ashes in. It has blue and white doves surrounding it which I am going to keep at my house.

The urn along with pictures of Larry will be on a display table at Southern Hills Mennonite Church, 511 SE 37th Street, on Saturday, January 7th at 2 pm. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and share memories of their experiences and interactions with him.
