Larry D. Hager

May 19, 1929 — March 12, 2016

Larry D. Hager, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at a Topeka hospital. He was born May 19, 1929 in Bloomington, Nebraska, the son of Donald V. and Verda A. (Strickert) Hager.

Larry was an Air Force Veteran during the Korean War where he obtained the rank of Airman 1st Class. Larry earned a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska.

Larry was employed as a Computer Systems Analyst for the State of Kansas Social & Rehabilitation Service for 16 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, the American Society of Mechanical Engineer's, Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and was involved with Boy Scouts of America Troop 69 and 187.

Larry married Arlene E. Fritson on October 24, 1954 in Macon Nebraska. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dean Hager. Survivors include their children, Rhonda K. (Mark) Simpson of Topeka, James D. (Carol) Hager of Carbondale, Kansas, Connie L. (Andy) Huyett of Pittsburg, Kansas, Michael J. Hager of Topeka, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and his brother, Franklin Hager of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Larry will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66611 or to the Jayhawk Area Boy Scout Council, 1020 SE Monroe St., Topeka, Kansas 66612.
