LaFerne D. Kayhill, 91, Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born April 19, 1921, in Damar, KS, the oldest of six children to Raymond Sr. and Faye Groves.
LaFerne accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a teenager and was a devout Christian woman her entire life. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She earned her degree from Washburn University. Laferne worked over 30 years for the V.A. Medical Center as a Neuropsychology Technician.
LaFerne was married to Dolan Kayhill, Sr. and with this union brought four children. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; two brothers; two children; and one grandson. She is survived by two sisters; twin sons; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandkids; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 610 SE Lime, Topeka. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. LaFerne will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
