L. Lorraine Donovan
L. Lorraine Donovan, 84, Topeka, died Thursday. Oct, 7,2004, at Plaza West R H C, where she had been a resident for the last year and a half.
Lorraine was born May 16, 1920 in Carthage, Mo, the daughter of Arthur and Lula Sharp Devereaux. She was one of four girls and one boy.
Lorraine Devereaux met Ernest Donovan in 1942 and married him that same year in Carthage, Mo. They lived in Texas and then later settled in Topeka after WW 11. He preceded her in death in 1998 after nearly 56 years of marriage.
Their marriage gave them three daughters. Vicki Raine and her husband Steve of Auburn, Ks, Shirley Weidner and her husband Rick, of Davenport, Fl., and Patty Howe and her husband John, of Tucson, Az. Five grandchildren: Tod, Tracy, Jason, Heather and Deavereaux: Seven great grand children. She is also survived by one sister and one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
She attended Public school in Carthage, and graduated from business school in St. Louis. She managed the Montgomery Catalog Department in her early years. She retired from Victory Life Insurance Co. in 1979 where she had been an Executive Secretary to the President.
Lorraine was a member of the West Side Baptist Church for over 50 years and served in many capacities. She was also active with the Shrine Ladies Auxiliary. Also to a very special group of people known as the "Supper Club".
Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 1 pm, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-town Chapel Lorraine will be laid to rest next to her husband , in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. She will lie in state after Noon on Monday at the funeral home, where relative and friends will meet from 7:00-8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to West Side Baptist Church, 1008 SW 4`h, Topeka, 66606, or Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29`h , Suite 20, Topeka, 66614.
