Kyoko Gasper, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at her home. She was born June 20, 1928 in Kumamoto, Japan, the daughter of Yahiko and Aya Yoshinaga Takata.
She came to the United States in 1956 and attended college in Monterey, CA. She graduated from Washburn University in 1979 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. She's lived in Topeka from 1966 – 1984. She and her husband moved to Oklahoma City where they resided from 1984 – 1994 before moving back to Topeka after she retired. Kyoko was a member of First Baptist Church and was an avid golfer at Lake Shawnee and Forbes Golf Courses.
Kyoko married Don L. Gasper on February 12, 1982 in Miami, OK. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Charles (Anita) Evanhoe of Dayton, OH, Mark (Lisa) Evanhoe of Topeka, one daughter, Michiko (Bill) Snell of Topeka, one step-son, Dennis (Cindy) Gasper of St. Joseph, MO and one step-daughter, Tracy (Randy) Kern of Berryton, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO at a later date. Kyoko will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
