Kipp Maytag Emmons

January 9, 1930 — April 20, 2012

Kipp Maytag Emmons, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at a Topeka hospital. He was born January 9, 1930, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Foster N. and Georgia E. Carey Emmons.

He graduated from Washburn Rural High School class of 1947. Kipp served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee from 1948 to 1952. He was employed in his family's butane business for 21 years. He retired from the Corps of Engineers after 20 years working at Clinton Reservoir.

Kipp served on the Washburn Rural School Board, was a member and served as Past Master of the Wakarusa Masonic Lodge #402 A.F. & A.M. and was a member of Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies and the Arab Shrine.

He married Clara L. McClellan September 14, 1952, in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Kim M. Emmons and wife, Karla of Topeka; a daughter, Connie L. Long and husband Patrick of Carbondale; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Kipp was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James W. Emmons.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel for a celebration of his life. The family requests those attending to dress casual.
