Kenneth P. Storey

Kenneth Paul Storey, 90, passed away Monday, February 15th, in Topeka. He was born February 15th 1920, in Mulvane, Kansas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Storey. His parents died in the Udall, Kansas Tornado in 1955.

He moved to Topeka from Chillicothe, Missouri to be with his daughter after the death of his second wife.

Growing up in Mulvane, he was a normal Kansas farm boy, and was a member of the Sedgwick County 4-H, where he won national awards for meat identification and judging in Chicago.

Kenneth graduated from Mulvane High School in 1938, and attended Kansas State College in Manhattan, where he was a member of the ROTC for two and one-half years. He received preliminary training at the U.S. Naval Reserve Aviation Base in Kansas City before going to Pensacola, Florida for basic and advance training. He received his designation of Naval Aviator with a commission as Ensign in the Naval Reserve but elected to be in the Marine Corps Reserve as a 2nd Lieutenant. As a Marine Aviator, Kenneth flew a Douglas Dauntless dive-bomber airplane in multiple combat missions during WWII in the Philippines, Isle of Luzon. Captain Storey received the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Bronze Stars, Air Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. As a Marine Aviator, Capt. Storey was an instructor at the Hutchinson, Kansas Naval Air Station and later El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, Santa Ana, California.
Kenneth retired from the John Deere Corporation as a Division Manager of Financial Services in 1983, after 31 years of service.

Kenneth is survived by his brother George Storey of Winfield, Kansas, and two sisters, Pauline Slack of Mulvane, Kansas, and Kathryn Beck of Zapata, Texas. Carl Storey, Mulvane, Kansas and Francis Storey, Winfield, Kansas preceded him in death.

His first wife, Virginia May Bailey, and second wife Ruth Wilson of Chillicothe, Missouri also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his only child, Camille S. Heeb M.D. of Topeka, two granddaughters Marsha K. Heeb D.V.M. (Paul Sullivan D.V.M.) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Sarah S. Wilborn (Brady O.D.) of California, Missouri, two great granddaughters, and one great grandson.
Kenneth bequeathed his body to the University of Kansas Medical School.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation. A family celebration of Kenneth's life will be scheduled later in Udall, Kansas.
