Kenneth Kipp

Mr. Kenneth G. Kipp, 87, of Topeka passed away Friday, March 12, 2004 at Plaza West Care Center. He was born August 18, 1916 in Prairie View, KS to Harry and Hattie Zwiers Kipp.

Kenneth attended grade school and high school in Prairie View and business school in Denver. In Feb. 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the European Theatre with the 635th Tank Destroyer Battalion. At the time of his discharge he had reached the rank of Staff Sgt.

Mr. Kipp worked for Monroe Calculating Machine Company for 32 years, retiring in 1980. He then worked part time for Blue Cross at the security desk for 10 years. Kenneth was an active member of West Side Christian Church for 59 years, serving as an usher, deacon and elder. He was a member of VWF Philip Billard Post #1650.

On June 21, 1942, he married Velma Ruth Sumner; who survives. He is also survived by his son Roger Kipp and his wife, Donna of Estes Park, CO, his daughters Margaret Cochrane and her husband, Tom of Topeka, KS and Brenda Kipp of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nathan G., Kelli, Kristi, Aaron, Melissa, Jason, Andrew, Nathan C., Sarah and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 3-5 pm, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. He will lie in state on Monday from 9 am until Noon. Funeral services will be Monday, March 15, 2004 at 2 pm at West Side Christian Church; interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
