Kenneth O. Byler

August 24, 1931 — March 16, 2017

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather Kenneth Oren Byler, died peacefully in Rolling Hills Health and Rehab in Topeka, KS on March 16, 2017 at the age of 85.

Ken was born on August 24, 1931 in Webb City, MO. He graduated Webb City High School in 1950. He married Merideth, his high school sweetheart, on October 22, 1950. Throughout his life, Ken worked as a truck parts manager in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas; operated The Topeka Flea Market; and owned and operated Bates Furniture. After retirement, he worked part-time as a bus driver for USD 501. Although he worked well into his eighties, his greatest love was spending time with his extensive family. His thoughtfulness and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him, and that compassion and kind-heartedness will be enormously missed by all.

Ken is survived by his wife Merideth (Nicholson) Byler – Topeka, KS; his brother Tommy Byler – Sherman, TX; children Kathy (Rob) Morris – Topeka, KS, Christy (Dan) Sublett - Hot Springs, AR, Barbara (Brad) Renner – Topeka, KS, and Laurel (Tim) Iwig – Tecumseh, KS; grandchildren Ben Blackwood – Oklahoma City, OK, Melissa (Jeff) Boyer – Topeka, KS, Bruce (Amanda) Blackwood – Moore, OK, Geoff (Kristy) Morris – Topeka, KS, Sara Rivera – Topeka, KS, Steven (Julie) Morris - Topeka, KS, Corey Sublett – El Dorado, AR, Christopher Sublett – Hot Springs, AR, Courtney Iwig – Tecumseh, KS, Chelsea Iwig – Houston, TX, Cian Renner – Topeka, KS, Samuel Iwig – Tecumseh, KS; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Sunday, March 19 from 6-8 pm at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel; funeral services will take place Monday, March 20 at 1:00 pm. Pastor L. D. Holmes will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken's life.
