Kenneth Byrce, Higginbotham 87, of Topeka passed away at St. Francis Hospital on September 3, 2003. He was born on September 7, 1915 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Lemuel L. and Alice Ann Ramsden Higginbotham.
He graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO in 1935. His work career began in the coal mines in Elmira, MO. Mr. Higginbotham was an artist and also worked in advertising during his career he worked for the Kansas City Journal Post newspaper, Sears in KC, MO, was the advertising manager for Sears in Shreveport, LA, a commercial artist and worked for the Pictorial Times newspaper. At his retirement, Mr. Higginbotham was the supervisor of the directory art department of Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka. In 1966 he was voted advertising man of the year and awarded the medallion from Printers Ink Magazine.
Mr. Higginbotham was a WWII veteran and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
On January 2, 1938 he married Mildred Laubach, she passed away April 5, 2001.
Survivors include, son, Neil H. Higginbotham and his wife Carol of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Oneita L. Higginbotham of Braganca, Brazil. There are three Grandsons, Major Kenneth Mark and his wife Mandy of Ft. Sill, OK, David Neil and his wife Carol Ann of Bend, OR and Stephen James and his wife Bonita of Lecompton, KS, also surviving are six great grandchildren.
Mr. Higginbotham will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm, the family will receive friends from 6:00- 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 1:00 pm, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, with interment to follow at East View Cemetery, Big Springs, KS.
