Ken B. Lomax, 79, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 surrounded by family.
He was born July 21, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Loyd and Erma (Bradley) Lomax. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1963, then attended Emporia State and Washburn University.
Ken married Shirley Larimer on June 11, 1966 in Topeka, KS.
Ken worked 32 years at BNSF Railroad in Accounting. After retirement, he and Shirley moved to Florida and began working part time for Walt Disney World Resort. He enjoyed his job as boat Captain on the Friendship Boats at Epcot Center.
He was a faithful member of Countryside United Methodist Church, of Topeka. He served years as a Trustee on the church board, served meals at Let's Help, and many other community service activities. He also sang in the church choir for many years. Ken lived to lend a helpful hand at church and in his community.
Ken was his children's biggest supporter. He never missed their school or extra circular activities. He enjoyed time with his family and looked forward to time spent with his grandchildren above all.
His love for travel took him to many mountains and oceans. Ken and Shirley enjoyed traveling together, but especially loved to go on cruises. Also, in his spare time, he enjoyed pottering in the garden or working in his yard and going to estate sales.
He was a proud Eagle Scout, worked at Philmont Camp, and a part of the Jaycee's.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley June Lomax; his children, Angie Lomax and Bradley (Ashley) Lomax; grandchildren, Will (Lilli) McLeod, Megan McLeod, Katen McLeod, Thomas Lomax and Walter Lomax; two great grandchildren, Cora McLeod – Jones and Gabriel McLeod; and his sister, Sue Lomax – Jeremias (George). He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Jane.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66611. Visitation at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Countryside United Methodist Church 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka, KS 66611.
