Keith Paul Kirby, 90, of Topeka, KS, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. He lived most of his life and raised his family in Coldwater, Michigan.
He was born December 4, 1924 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Paul and Ruth McNickle Kirby. He graduated from Battle Creek High and attended the University of North Carolina, the University of the South. He received his BA from Western Michigan University and his MA from the University of Oklahoma. He served in WWII in the Navy Aviation and received the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He taught High School Math and was a Cost Control Manager for six Foundries in Michigan. In Topeka he worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Coldwater where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon, Gage Park Baptist Church of Topeka, the Michigan Accountant Association and the Coldwater American Legion for 68 years. He wrote and published several stories and poems.
Keith is survived and missed by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; Daughters Sally Anderson, (Troy) of Topeka, Susan Koss (Mike) of Port Charlotte, Florida, Grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah, and Caleb Walker, Aiden, McKelin and Becket Koss. He is preceded in death by his daughter Jane Ann, his parents and sister.
His family will celebrate his life with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Gage Park Baptist Church. Private inurnment will take place at California Corners Cemetery in Branch Co., Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gage Park Baptist Church, 3601 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
