Kathryn Grace (Snyder) Walters
Kathryn Grace Walters, 70, passed away at Topeka, Kansas, on Thursday, August 11, 2005, following a two-year battle with melanoma.
The youngest daughter of Glenn Ward and Gladys May Snyder, Kathryn was born March 26, 1935 at Abilene, Kansas. She graduated from Abilene High School, and attended Brown-Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas.
She was united in marriage to James J. (J.J.) Walters on August 21, 1953, and the couple leased the Marquette Tribune for eight years before moving to Blair, Nebraska in 1961, and then to Lindsborg, Kansas, a short time later, where they managed the Lindsborg News-Record until 1979, when they moved to Topeka.
Kathryn was employed as an order clerk at the Jostens Cover Plant for 15 years before her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Topeka Country Quilters for several years, where she served as vice-president and program chairman for one year and was active in the group. Her main interest in life, in addition to her family, was her garden and yard, where she spent countless hours working with her many plants and flowers. She especially enjoyed watching the variety of birds that gathered around her bird feeders, and the other wildlife that visited their rural home.
She is survived by her husband, J.J.; a daughter, Barbara, of the home; a son, Donald, and his wife, Vicky, of Topeka; one grandson, Brian James (B.J.) Walters of Daytona Beach, FL; one granddaughter, Amanda Walters of Topeka; three sisters, Elaine Entrikin of Mission, Kansas, June Jury, and her husband, Paul, of Chapman, Kansas, and Fay Blackburn of Bloomington, Indiana; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Ward and Gladys May Snyder, and three sisters, Lorna Perry, Myra Marshall and Lois Wilbur.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, in Topeka with interment and graveside services at the Marquette, KS, cemetery Monday at 3:30 p.m. Mrs. Walters will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
