Kathryn Kelly Creel Ryan died Saturday, May 21st, 2011. She was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on December 13th, 1927, the daughter of Harry and Mary Lu Kelly Creel. At age 5 she moved to Topeka, Kansas and attended Loman Hill and Randolph grade schools, Boswell Junior High, Topeka High School, and Washburn University. At Washburn she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
She remained active in Delta Gamma all her life, and she was also active in PEO (chapter GJ), Westminster Presbyterian Church, and a Thursday luncheon club centered near the Collins Park area. She also did volunteer work for many Topeka organizations including Head Start, Doorstep, Let's Help, St Francis Hospital, Everywoman Resource Center, the Treasure of the Czars traveling exhibit, and the Mulvane Art Museum.
Kathryn enjoyed traveling both in the US and abroad. She spent time in Russia, many places in Europe, Mexico, and Canada, and she visited a large part of the United States.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard W. Ryan, her daughter Kathleen R. England, her son Kelly C. Ryan, her sister Betty Huson and brother-in-law John Huson, and her grandchildren William R. England and Patrick M. Ryan, as well as close family friends, Jean Morton, Arlene Vickers, and Mary Dando.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23rd, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or to Easter Seals Capper Foundation.
