Kathryn Hill

Kathryn "Katie" (Quaney) Hill, age 97, passed away on February 21, 2021 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born April 19, 1923 to parents Frank and Lillian Quaney in Topeka, Kansas. Katie graduated from Topeka High School in 1941. She married Wayne Hill, her high school sweetheart, in October, 1943. Together they raised five children: Bruce, Daryl, Craig, Larry and Tracie.

While Katie was a bookkeeper for the family business, her love and commitment to family was the hallmark of her life's work.
Family was the priority. A consistent supporter at a myriad of kids' activities, it was commonplace to find Katie at sports venues in her vintage lawn chair, celebrating victories and soothing defeats.

Katie exuded unconditional love and kindness for her family, friends and caregivers. She had a quiet way of leaving people better than she found them. Katie will continue to inspire us to live as kinder, gentler folk.

As devoted Chiefs fans, Katie and Wayne enjoyed supporting their team both on the road and at home. They proudly attended the first Super Bowl in 1967 and had season tickets for several decades.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her son Bruce, and grandson Jason Hill. She is survived by her children Daryl (Sandy), Craig (Shelley), Larry (Carol), and Tracie (Dale) McCluskey, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Katie will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave.
