Kathleen England

July 13, 1948 — October 28, 2024

Topeka

Topeka – Kathleen Ryan England died on October 28, 2024. She leaves behind her brother, Kelly Ryan, her son, Richard England, her nephew, Patrick Ryan—as well as Pam Bowles and Ken Morton and their kids, Harper, Jackson, Kataryna, and Kameryn, the children and grandchildren of her great friend and partner, Jean Morton.

Kathy was known for her incredible memory, literary prowess, quick wit, and strong opinions (which benefitted from typically being correct). She balanced pragmatism with kindness and had a great love for her church community—who returned that love to her many times over. And boy did she enjoy singing in the church choir.

For over 40 years, Kathy worked as a teacher and mental health practitioner, dedicating her career to helping children and families. Her life and work took her from Topeka to Indianapolis to Lincoln to Casper and back to Topeka. Road trips to Yellowstone and the Great Salt Lake, and points between and beyond, were staples in her life—as was Jeopardy and a good glass of scotch.

In retirement, Kathy continued to support her community by volunteering with programs like Doorstep and summer lunch programs at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also vigorously pursued her passion for genealogy and photography (especially of “the little birdies”).

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Ryan, her father, Richard Ryan, and Jean. She joins them in heaven along with her cat Macavity, who is surely still meowing endlessly.

Funeral services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on November 23rd at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mount St. Scholastica-Sophia Center, the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Program, Doorstep, or Grace Episcopal Cathedral.

Adios, madre.
