Karen L. Singer, 63, of Topeka, died December 30, 2011 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born April 29, 1948 in Goodland, Kansas to Frances and Clara Jane (Hickson) Frey. She lost her father in 1959 and was later adopted by Harold Johnson.

She graduated from Topeka West High School and attended Washburn University. While there, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was a member of Seward Avenue Baptist Church in Topeka and Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan.

She worked as a homemaker and provided pre-school child care in her home. She later served as house mother for Greek organizations at Kansas State in Manhattan and Baker in Baldwin.

Karen is survived by two children, Kashca Henry and Tolan (Pam) Singer; grandchildren, Emily and Nick Henry, Abbi and Noah Singer all of Kansas City, MO; father, Harold Johnson of Topeka; brother, Quigg Frey of Wilmington, DE; dearest friend, Linda Hedstrom of Olathe.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 920 Main St., Suite 280, Kansas City, MO 64105.
