Karen L. Heckman, 69, of Topeka, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, in Topeka.
She was born February 19, 1945, in Topeka, KS, daughter of Frieda L. (Fusch) and Garold A. Simmons. Karen spent her early years in Topeka, and graduated from Topeka High School in 1963. She was married to John Heckman. John was in the military, and they were stationed in several different places throughout the United States. They spent several years in California, and later returned to Topeka.
Karen was a member of Quivira Heights Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Bob Simmons.
Karen is survived by her two brothers, Larry (Merlene) Simmons, Sr. and Terry (Mary) Simmons, both of Topeka, several nieces, nephews and other family members, and friend, Bob Cherry, Topeka.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Quivira Heights Church of Christ, 1718 SW Crest Drive, Topeka. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the animal shelter of the donor's choice in memory of Karen Heckman and her cat, Valentine.
Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family.
