Karen Miller Godfrey, 54, of Wakarusa, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born October 4, 1959, in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of Norman and Elinor (Cox) Miller.
Karen was a life-long educator, teacher, coach, advisor and mentor to Kansas youth. She taught at Logan Jr. High and Seaman Freshman Center. She was a member of Chi Omega and a graduate of the University of Kansas, and currently serving as President of KNEA.
Karen married Rich Godfrey on August 14, 1982, in Topeka, KS. He survives. Other survivors include her mother, Elinor Miller; brother, Dirk (Jeanne) Miller; sister, Cecilia Miller, all of Juneau, AK; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Paula and Denny Johnson, of Baldwin, KS; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Private family interment will be at East View Cemetery in Big Springs. Karen will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Education Scholarship at Seaman High School c/o of the Topeka Community Foundation or the Big Springs Cemetery Fund.
