Karen A. Acord
Mrs. Karen A. Acord, 69, of Topeka, KS passed away December 1, 2009 at the Midland Hospice House. She was born in Topeka on November 8, 1940 to David and Norma Keller.
Mrs. Acord graduated from Topeka High School in 1958, and graduated Kansas University Nursing School in 1962. She practiced nursing for her entire 47 year career, the final 20 of which were spent working at Dr. Laccheo's office in Topeka. She enjoyed playing bridge, social sorority group functions, and traveling with family and friends.
On May 23, 1970, she was married to James L. Acord, deceased 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Eurlene Domingo. She is survived by: one son, Michael J. R. Acord, one step-daughter, Shelly L. Acord, one nephew, David R. Domingo, one great-nephew, Daniel J. Domingo, and one grandson, James W. Acord, all of Topeka.
Mrs. Acord will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel in Topeka on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 4pm-9pm. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 7, at 1:00pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245. Online donations can be made at www.pancan.org.
