June Eloise (Durflinger) Smith, 95, of Topeka, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Topeka.
June was born July 1, 1922, in Courtland, KS, the daughter of Minnie Chadd and William Elder Durflinger. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1940. She lived most of her life in Topeka.
During the Second World War she was a Civil Service Employee serving in all three branches on the service over the period. She worked for Unified School District 501 as a school secretary for 22 years. June was a Gage Park Zoo Docent for nine years. For many years she worked with the Laubach Literacy Council.
She married Earl R. Smith on April 4, 1942, and lived happily ever after. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Bowen of Topeka; two sons, Gregory Smith (Sylvia) of Denver, Colorado and Chad Smith (Mary) of Lawrence; grandson, Morgan Bowen (Hwa Jung); and two great-grandchildren, Estlin and Lillian.
June was preceded in death by her grandson, Nicholas Bowen.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Gage Park Baptist Church, 3601 SW 10th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gage Park Baptist Church.
