June C. Hill
June C. Hill, 95, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born June 14, 1915 in Waverly, KS, the daughter of Fred and Nelle Fockele.
June graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, KS, in 1932. She was a teacher for 4 years in Clearwater, KS. She then came to Topeka to teach. She later moved to Aurora, CO. She later returned to Kansas City, and married John E. Hill in 1961. They then moved to Port Angeles, Washington and lived there for 30 years. In 2002, she returned to Topeka.
June was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Hill in 1989, two brothers, Dean Fockele and Bill Fockele, half-brothers, Max Fockele, Sherman Brown, and half-sisters, Mary Eslinger and Lucille Brown.
June was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Port Angeles, Washington. She was a life time member of FM Chapter of P.E.O. She was an avid music lover, and sang in her younger years for small groups and recorded a record in 1958. She was an avid bird watcher, and studied them extensively. She also was an avid reader, and loved to travel.
Survivors include two step-sons, Stephen Hill of Aiken, SC and John F. Hill of Overland Park, KS; her step-grandson, John S. Hill; her great-grandson, Parker S. Hill; a niece, Lynn Fockele McKinsey, a caregiver for nine years, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Ste. LL-15, Topeka, KS 66604 or the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Dr., Topeka, KS 66614. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
