Julia A. Luekenga, 91, Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007 at Brewster Place.
Julia was born in Westmoreland, KS on December 11, 1916, the daughter of Julius and Ruth Burton Pittenger.
She was a graduate of Wamego High School.
Julia worked at Hallmark Cards and Brewster Place as an aide/companion for over 40 years.
Julia worked in the shipyards as a "Rosie Rivitor" during WWII.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church serving on alter guild and was a member of the choir.
Julia married John "Harry" Luekenga on September 15, 1937. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Sept. 1987. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1988.
Survivors include one son, Dion, a daughter, Sherry McDonald, both of Topeka; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, another due in March 2008.
Julia was preceded in death by her son, Gary, on May 25, 2007 in Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2021 SW 29th, Topeka, KS 66611. Burial will follow in Wamego Cemetery. Julia will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
