Julia E. Losey, 83, Topeka, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Midland Hospice House.
Julia was born February 5, 1924 in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Nellie Ann (Rice) Tanquary. She spent her childhood in Ft. Scott and moved to Topeka where she attended Junior High and graduated from Topeka High School. Upon graduation she went to work for the United States Secret Service in Topeka.
Julia married Captain Karl L. Losey on July 25, 1945 in Topeka. Her husband being a member of the U.S. Army, allowed her to travel the world during his 27 years of service in the Infantry.
She was well known as a member of the Shawnee Country Club Women's Golf Team and twice a runner up in the City championship.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Colonel (Ret) Karl L.Losey; their children, Victoria Nelson, Karl E. Losey, Kristina Seeley, Kim Ketterman, and Karen Travis, all of Topeka; seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Julia will lie in state at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
