Judith Gaither Jorg Johnson, 75, of Topeka, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016.
She was born November 28, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter Samuel Henry and Alice Pearl (Whiteside) Jorg.
Judith was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and received a bachelor's degree in sociology from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg. She was employed by the US Postal Service from 1986-2003 and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Topeka. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jamestown Society, Society of John Gaither Descendants, and Phi Beta Kappa.
Judith married Peter R. Deckenbach, Jr. on June 25, 1965. They divorced in 1975.
Survivors include children, Mark (Teresa) Deckenbach, Nancy (Lloyd) Taylor, Janet (Jay) Luehring, Pam (Skeeter) Tremblay, and John Deckenbach; grandchildren, Timothy Deckenbach, Jessica, Laura, and Katy Taylor, Katherine Luehring, Alycia Noriega, Austin and Alexandra Tremblay; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Topeka Rescue Mission.
