Juanita Marie Powell was born in Belton, Texas, to Roy and Maxine Lovorn on August 11, 1940. Having put her trust in Jesus Christ, she went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was 83. She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Roy Curtis.
She was devoted to her family and had three children, Rebecca Larson, J Chris (and Melodie) Powell, and Priscilla (and Chris) Roberts, 21 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. She mentored two generations as an awesome mom and Nana.
Mrs. Powell earned a Bachelor of Education and Master's degree in reading at Washburn. She taught for more than 30 years, and loved each of her students, first at Lafayette Elementary, then at Scott Magnet School. She taught first through fourth grade and later was a reading specialist.
She attended Topeka Bible Church for 61 years and taught Sunday School for many years. She loved working with Pioneer Girls Clubs at TBC and in a home group, teaching how to cook and sew.
She was known for hospitality and loved to entertain family and friends, cooking fun and extravagant dishes for family and friends. She also delighted in playing games with her family and friends. She had a gracious spirit and will be missed very much.

Funeral Service Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at First Southern Baptist Church, with visitation beginning an hour prior to service time. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow funeral service.
