Juanita Maxine "Tootie" (DeLaney) Denton, 88, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Midland Hospice House.
Tootie was born September 14, 1928, in Fort Scott, KS to Edwin S. and Myrtle B. (McCargar) DeLaney. She graduated from Fort Scott High School. Tootie met Robert M. Denton while on a picnic with friends and they married on April 8, 1946, in Fort Scott, KS. Together they loved to square dance and they traveled all over the United States dancing in almost every state. They were members of the Kansas Square Dance Association and helped promote the 2008 National Square Dance Convention in Wichita. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert M. Denton, and several nieces and nephews.
Tootie was preceded in death by her twin sister, Luanita N. "Tiny" Helms; parents; and four brothers, Earl, Donald, Eldon, and Virgil DeLaney.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Arbor Court Retirement Community at Topeka, 4200 SW Drury Lane, Topeka, KS 66604. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, KS.
