Juan Luis Trejo

Juan Luis Trejo, 18, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011. He was born on January 7, 1993, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Juventino Trejo and Abigail (Perez) Fetters.

Juan and his family moved to Topeka in 1998. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 2011. Juan was an athlete: He played soccer for Topeka West, where he was the goalkeeper, as well as Topeka Select and several other organizations. He was selected to play for the Governor's Cup several times. Juan coached youth soccer for three years at Sport Zone, where he also refereed. After several soccer scholarship opportunities, Juan chose to attend Johnson County Community College this fall, where he would play soccer.

Juan is survived by his mother and step-father, Karl Fetters of the home, his sisters, Patricia, Carmelita and her husband Alvaro Onate, Maricela and her husband Noel Retana, five nieces and nephews, Ariana, Alondra, Arely, Pablito, and Aldo, a grandmother, Alicia Arellano of Mexico, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Jesus Trejo, Concepcion Lopez and Felix Perez.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a parish rosary at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at the church. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
