Joyce V. Hankamer, 77, Topeka, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at her home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1928 in Garnett, the daughter of Frank and Esther Chambers Ecord. She came to Topeka with her family as a small child, graduated from Topeka High School, and attended Kansas State University and Washburn University.
Mrs. Hankamer was a member of First Congregational Church, Helena Chapter #210 Order of Eastern Star since 1952, and Topeka Country Club. She formerly was on the board of directors of Family Service and Guidance Center, Mulvane Art Board, and Brewster Place. She was an avid bridge player and golfer.
She married John L. Hankamer on April 8, 1949 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Dave Hankamer and wife, Pattie, Olathe; two daughters, Susan Papps, Topeka and Sally Wright and husband Greg, Topeka; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ilene Ecord, Topeka and Vivian Jackson, and husband, Albert, Topeka.
Joyce was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Hankamer and her brother, Jack Ecord.
Private graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Hankamer will lie in state after noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends and family from 5-7 pm.
