Joyce Ruth Martinsen, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013.
She was born January 24, 1931 in Buffalo, MN, the daughter of Rex and Etta (Hopkins) Frederick. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School.
Joyce was a former member of the New Hope Lutheran Church, Comfrey, MN and a current member of Faith Lutheran Church, Topeka. She volunteered for Door Step and Topeka Rescue Mission in Topeka.
Joyce married Ralph W. Martinsen on October 13, 1956 in Minneapolis, MN. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2009. Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Risch (Loren) of Topeka and Judy Martinsen of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Anne and Andrew Risch, Erin Zoutendam, Katie Martinsen and Corrie Thwing; and a sister, Esther Marcelius of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Joyce loved decorating, art, bird feeding and most of all, her grandchildren.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Joyce will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Comfrey Dollars for Scholars, Comfrey MN 56019 or to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N.
