Joyce E. Schwisow, 69, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. She was born October 23, 1944 in Fairbury, NE, the daughter of John and Hilda Fett Eisenhauer.
Joyce spent her youth growing up on a farm and was very active in 4-H. She took great pride in growing up competing at County Fairs and State Fairs showing her Guernsey cattle. Later she was active in Jaycee's Nebraska and Kansas. She graduated from Fairbury High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska.
She was employed as an elementary school teacher before becoming a full-time mother. Roger and Joyce moved to Topeka in 1980 as owners of Brown's Shoe Fit. She enjoyed volunteering in her children's activities along with scrapbooking for herself and her family members. She was a long time member of Countryside United Methodist Church.
Joyce married Roger L. Schwisow on August 16, 1964 in Fairbury, NE. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Jodi (Steve) Hauschild of Topeka, Ryan (Jennifer) Schwisow of Topeka, Jill (David) Burtin of Topeka, Ross (Dana) Schwisow of Basehor, KS, six grandchildren, Kaley and Avery Hauschild, Lincoln and Ryker Schwisow, Alaina and Ty Schwisow, one brother, Lowell (Delores) Eisenhauer of Beatrice, NE, one sister, Janice (Bob) Atkins, and niece Lindsey of Fairbury, NE.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Countryside United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Joyce will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
