Joyce Ann (Griffith) Barr, 86, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka.
Joyce was born October 16, 1930, in Topeka, KS, to Lester William and Georgia Mae (Grimm) Griffith and was the oldest sister to Lesta Mae (Griffith) Barr. She graduated in 1948 from Highland Park High School. On August 15, 1948, she married Bernard W. Barr, in Topeka, KS. Together they ran the family farm west of Topeka and operated Barr's Poultry Farm for 45 years, delivering eggs to local grocery stores, food establishments and nursing homes.
She and Bernard raised two sons, Bernard E. "Gene" (JoAnne) Barr of Overland Park, KS and William F. "Bill" (Patricia) Barr of Portland, TX.
Joyce was an avid league bowler for more than 50 years, competing in multiple city and state tournaments. She was a volunteer leader for the Alzheimer's Support Group, Topeka, KS for 25 years, and was a strong supporter of Kansas 4-H poultry projects for more than 40 years.
She was incredibly proud of her two grandsons, Brandon (Emmy) Barr of Portland OR, and Ryan Barr of Lubbock, TX. She became a great-grandmother in July 2016, with the addition of Scarlett Barr of Portland, OR.
In addition, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
