Joy E. Staats, 87, Topeka, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 21, 2008.
Joy was born September 25, 1920 in Coats, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Blain) Shupe, the second of three daughters.
She graduated from Pratt High School and Pratt Community College.
She managed Topeka Uniform Shop for many years, retiring in 1983.
She was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church and had been the church pianist at South Knollwood Baptist Church.
Joy married C. Ebert Staats on June 6, 1942. He survives. Other survivors include daughter, Jan (Mike) Remboldt, Topeka; grandsons, Zac and Sam Remboldt; sister, Virginia Warren, Houston, TX; son-in-law, Louis (Carole) Menedez, Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, James Ebert Staats; daughter, Georgia Lea Menendez; and sister, Fern Biddinger.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24. 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Joy will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
