Josephine V. Turney, of Kansas City, MO., passed away Wednesday, May 4 at her home.
She was born in Randolph, KS., the daughter of Edward and Ida Sand Schultes.
She graduated from Randolph High School. Following graduation, she moved to Topeka and worked for the Creamery Restaurant. During World War II, she lived in Portland, OR and Seattle WA. She and her husband owned and operated Commercial Insurance Service in Topeka for many years. She was also an accomplished seamstress and tailor. She will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren whom she helped raise and loved very much.
She married Bob Turney on June 1, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Virgie Cook and Dorothy Johnson and a brother, Lyman Schultes.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Turney of Mission, KS; a son, David Turney and his wife Michelle of Kansas City, MO; four brothers; Merlin Schultes of Manhattan, KS: Milo 'Mike" Schultes of Topeka; Raymond Schultes of Topeka; Leon Schultes of Randolph, KS; four grandchildren; Robert Schmoll and his wife Susan Moody of Washington D.C., Miles, Caitlin and Davis Turney of Kansas City, MO.
Mrs Turney will lie in state after 8:00 am, Monday, May 9 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 W. 10th St., Topeka, KS 66604. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am that day at the funeral home with burial to follow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
