Joseph R. "Little Joe" Romano, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor.

Joseph was born on July 29, 1924 in Ravenna, Ohio to Mariona and Carmella Romano. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1942 and shortly after joined the US Air Force. In 1946, he took up amateur boxing and fought professionally until 1953.

Joseph married Nadine Romano on March 22, 1951 and was married for almost 50 years; she passed away in 2001.

Joseph was a resident of Topeka since 1945 and worked as a warehouse supervisor for the Federal Civil Service for over 27 years. He served twice as president for the Sunflower Lions Club and was a member of the Golden Glove Association.

He is survived by one daughter, Jodine M. Romano of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mariona and Carmella Romano and by his wife, Nadine Romano.

Cremation has taken place and the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial service is pending and will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 2001 S. Lindbergh Ave., St. Louis MO 63131 or to the Heartland Lions Eye Bank, 2 East 12th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
