Joseph N. Turner, Sr., 57, Topeka, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 after courageously battling Colon cancer.
Joe was born February 9, 1956 in Topeka, the son of Joseph Love and WiIlieMae Williams. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1974 and attended the University of Kansas.
He was employed as a Foreman by the City of Topeka Water Department for 24 years, retiring in 2013 due to health reasons.
He was also a well-known sports official for 17 years.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
Joe married Denene Thomas on May 15, 1999 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Joseph N. Turner, Jr., Kenneth Charles Turner, both of Colorado; granddaughter, Amori Turner; mother, WillieMae Wells, Virginia; brothers, Curtis Turner, Willie (Renee)Turner, Gary Wells; and sisters, Denise Wells, Cynthia Wells, Patricia Jones; and a host of family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
