Joseph N. McDonald, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Lexington Park Nursing Facility.
He was born October 1, 1931, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Andrew and Concorde McDonald. He married Patsy Henline in St. Louis, MO on November 2, 1951.
Joe served in the Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He owned two gift shops in Scandia and Smith Center, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1962.
Joe worked for the Reece Construction Company (Scandia, KS), and was also Manager of Crane Rental. He retired from Victor L. Phillips Company as Branch Manager in Topeka.
Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lebanon Lodge in Scandia for 49 years, the Scottish Rite and Arab Shrine in Topeka, the American Legion Post and the Moose Lodge. He served on the Scandia City Council and the School Board. Joe also served on the Shawnee County Civil Service Board and was a Board member for selection of Judges for the 3rd Judicial District in Topeka. Joe was a member of Shawnee County Club.
Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by Patsy, his wife, who resides in their Topeka home. Survivors also include two sons, Jeffrey and wife Nancy, Salina, KS; James and wife Lori, Belleville, KS, two daughters, Cathleen Strosnider and husband Preston, Frisco, TX; Kelli McKenzie and husband Jon, Topeka KS, a sister Doris Coope, and husband Jim, West Suffield, CT, and a brother Eugene and wife Martha, Enfield, CT, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Joe enjoyed life. He was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic KSU Wildcat fan. He loved sports and was a great storyteller.
Cremation is planned. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25 at the Penwell-Gable Midtown Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Street, Topeka, KS. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24, at the same location.
