Joseph M. Marshall, 93, Topeka, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
He was born Sept. 10, 1914, at Quenemo, the son of William S. and May Morris Marshall. He graduated from Quenemo High School and the University of Kansas, where he did graduate work.
Mr. Marshall taught in the Peabody, Kansas High School for two years, and was employed by Proctor & Gamble Munitions Plant in Milan, Tenn. before coming to Topeka in 1945. He was employed in the former Kansas Department of Civil Service, and from 1952 until his retirement in 1980, was Director of Personnel for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Mr. Marshall was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, and was a member of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Kansas Society, Sons of the American Revolution.
He was married to Lois Grace Wilson Sept. 11, 1940, at Quenemo. She died May 27, 1977. Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Pfuetze, Topeka; a son, H.B. Marshall, and his wife, Leah Gabler-Marshall also of Topeka; four grandchildren, Jill Schmidt (Andy), Kansas City, MO; Tucker Marshall (Leslie), Lee's Summit, MO; Robb Pfuetze (Susan), Truckee, CA; Jennifer McKnight (Todd), Seattle, WA; and 6 great-grandchildren, Bryce and Allison Pfuetze, Elizabeth and Cate Marshall, Joseph Schmidt and Griffin McKnight.
Private family burial will precede a Celebration of Life Service which will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church, 817 Harrison, Topeka, KS66612. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to First Presbyterian Church Bell Tower Fund. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
