Joseph John Lorson, 61, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
John was born October 6, 1961, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Thomas and Anita (Kampman) Lorson. He graduated from Hayden High School and attended classes at Washburn University.
He married Kayla Schonlaw in 1987 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas. They later separated after 20 years of marriage but stayed very good friends through the years.
He worked as Loan Officer and in management at Gartner Oil for many years. John was a self-employed handyman and enjoyed completing many home improvement projects.
He loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and often taking his dog for walks. He also enjoyed cooking, playing board games, reading Stephen King novels, and watching sports, especially KU Basketball and the Atlanta Braves. John also enjoyed taking a good nap. He had a caring heart and a gentle personality who loved to help everyone. All in all, John's favorite thing to do was spend time with his four kids: Kevin, Austin, Sophie, and Stevianna. He will be remembered as a great dad, brother, and friend.
John is survived by his children, Kevin, Sophie, and Stevianna; former spouse, Kayla Schonlaw-Lorson; siblings; Tom (Susan) Lorson, Kathy Lorson-Howell, Bill (Jo) Lorson, Cynthia (Tim) Robitaille, Diane (Greg) Harvey, Rick Lorson, Bob (Laura) Lorson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Austin Lorson, and his parents, Thomas and Anita Lorson.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. A blessing and memories will be shared at 6:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to The University of Kansas Burn and Wound Care Clinic.
