Joseph L. Pierce, 85, of Topeka, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his home.

He was born on October 21, 1927 in Wamego, KS to William and Mary Pierce. After high school, Joseph served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1949. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Joseph attended Washburn University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1955.

He married Verna Frownfelter in 1951 in Topeka; she survives of the home. Joseph began his 57 year career as a stockbroker at Beecroft Cole and Company in Topeka and worked in this profession even until the present day.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Verna Pierce of Topeka; two sons, Michael Pierce of San Diego, CA and Christopher (Jolie) Pierce of Overland Park; and one daughter, Barbara Pierce (Duke) Frye of Mission, KS as well as eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Pierce, by seven brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka. A private family inurnment will follow later at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washburn University School of Business, 1700 SW College Ave., Topeka, KS 66621.
